EDT lessons with me
I'm Ailbhe, an ADI approved instructor, and I teach all twelve EDT sessions in a manual or an automatic. Each session is an hour and I sign your logbook at the end of it. You get notes after every lesson, so you know what to practise before the next one.

Do you have to do all twelve?
Yes, if you are learning on a first learner permit. All twelve are required and you cannot sit the driving test until the last one is signed off in your logbook. Session 1 comes first; sessions 2 to 8 can be taken in any order after that, and 9 to 12 only once 2 to 8 are done. Drivers who already hold a full licence from certain countries may qualify for a shorter programme called reduced EDT. You apply for it; you can't simply choose it.

Important Information
EDT is not a test preparation course
This surprises people. The twelve lessons teach a syllabus the RSA sets, and passing the test is a separate skill. Plenty of learners finish all twelve and still aren't ready for the test, which is normal. When your date is close, a pretest is the lesson that looks at the test itself.
What happens between lessons
The practice you do between lessons matters more than the lessons themselves, because each session assumes you've practised the last one. A learner who has practised arrives at lesson eight ready for lesson eight. One who hasn't spends it repeating lesson six. You need a car you're insured in and someone with a full licence beside you. The RSA sets conditions on who may accompany a learner, so check rsa.ie for your own situation. If you have no one to practise with, tell me early and we'll space the lessons differently.
